Sat. Jul. 10  –19:00 WC Football game & African Food
At Kaiserwiese / Praterstern (Afrikanische Festwochen)

What a game!  When in the last minute Forlan of Urguay (best player of the Football World Championship) shot the ball on the goal post both German and Uruguay fans smiled in sympathy for a brave Uruguay team that lost against a fantastic German team 3:2. The public viewing location was great - live African music and food - perfect warm weather (no mosquitos!) and lots of fans from Germany and Uruguay (or Austrians with light blue Uruguay T-shirts). A great way to spend a Saturday evening.

Sat. Jul. 17  –18:00 Hike to Himmelhofwiese & Tiroler Alm
Spectacular view of Vienna, Dinner at Restaurant Brandauer's

The long, step staircase, mosquitos, heat & humidity, an unfriendly staff at the first restaurant (Tiroler Alm - never again!!) and tons of rain at the end could have made us angry and frustrated. Yet, when 25 people from ESUMC with their positive attitudes come together, then it is lot's of fun and heart warming evening anyway! The meadow was beautiful, the view was limited (due to several days of heat before), walking along with old and new friends was very enjoyable. We ended up at the Restaurant Brandauer's with excellent food, very friendly waiters and a fantastic environment. Once we left the restaurant later in the evening we were welcome by very hard rain falls. So, some of us got soaking wet - but we still laughed about it, anyway. Life takes unexpected changes, but it is good! We will remembers this night with a smile and a Thanks to God for great people!

Fri. Jul. 23  20:00 "Frantic" (Open-Air Movie, OV)
Film shown at Augartenspitz & Organic food buffet

Rain, Thunder, Lightning, Wind and a moving picture - so, it was a 5-D experience, although we did not have to wear special glasses. It was another hot summer night that turned into a thunder storm. However, everyone agreed it made this evening even more exciting and entertaining. Harrison Ford, of course, was great. So was the organic food buffet - ever had an Austrian burger with Angus meat from the Austrian alps? The second half of the movie (when they changed the film roll - how enchanting!) we all moved to the movie tent with antique movie theater chairs. We all had a fantastic time. You should really join us the next time!

Wed. Aug. 11  18:45 Secrets of the Southern Sky (in English)
Astronomy lecture at Planetarium Wien & Tex-Mex Food (Photos)

An astronomy lecture which did not question the existence of God but confirming our little knowledge about the universe: 95 % of the universe are yet unknown to humans. The lecture was very informative and the pictures in the dome-like theatre spectacular. Afterwards we went to the restaurant "La Estancia" in the Prater and enjoyed great conversations and excellent food (although we coined it "Euro-Latino" and not "Tex-Mex").

Fri. Aug. 20 18:00 Bicycling in the City & Dinner at Naschmarkt (Photos)
Bicycle-trip along the Danube Canal and the Ring & Ethnic food at Naschmarkt

Fantastic weather and a beautiful, romantic bicycle path along the Danube canal. We had a wonderfully diverse crowd of people together (each from a different country). Ah-young joined us from South Korea who had just learnt biycling in the same week, and who did not give up (even when she got dangerously close to the edge of the Danube Canal). So, we celebrated her courage as an essence to live when we ended up at the Naschmarkt enjoying some Mediterranean food.
