Advent and Christmas 2018

Join the English-Speaking United Methodist Church of Vienna for Advent and Christmas 2018. Advent is the season of preparation for the birth of Jesus. Christmas is the celebration of Jesus’ birth.

Worship services

2 December  – First Sunday of Advent – Pastor Matthew preaching on watching for Christ from Luke 21. Holy Communion will be celebrated. Worship begins at 11:15.

9 December – Second Sunday of Advent – Pastor Laura Trent preaching on preparing the way of the Lord from Luke 3. Pastor Laura was pastor at ESUMC from 2004-2011. Worship begins at 11:15.

16 December – Third Sunday of Advent – ESUMC children and youth present the annual Christmas play during worship. Worship begins at 11:15.

23 December – Fourth Sunday of Advent –  The worship service will be a special service of lessons and carols. The service is filled with Scripture readings related to the birth of Jesus and our favorite Advent and Christmas hymns. Worship begins at 11:15.

24 December – Christmas Eve – Celebrate the birth of Jesus at one of our services. Our family service which is geared to children begins at 14:30. Our traditional service begins at 18:00. Holy Communion will be celebrated at both services. 

25 December – Christmas Day – Come and help with our winter daytime shelter program! We open the church to our neighbors and friends to share hospitality and food. The program runs from 10:00-17:00. There is no worship service on Christmas Day.

30 December – First Sunday of Christmastide – Pastor Matthew preaching on Jesus coming of age from Luke 2 (Jesus visits the Temple at age 12). 

Special Prayer Services

ESUMC and our German-speaking congregation will be holding special prayer services on Thursday evenings during Advent. The services will follow the style of the Taize Community. The services will be held on November 29 and December 6, 13, and 20 at 19:00 in the church sanctuary. All are welcome.

Study on Christian Spiritual Practices

Pastor Matthew will lead a study of Christian spiritual practices from the study Five Means of Grace: Experiencing God’s Love the Wesleyan Way. The study takes place on Wednesday evenings from 18:30-20:30 in the church fellowship hall.

Our Location

We are located at Sechshauser Strasse 56, 1150 Vienna. Street parking is available on Sunday. Take the 57 A bus to ‘Grimmgasse’. The nearest U-bahn station is ‘Längenfeldgasse’ on lines U4 and U6. At the station take the exit toward Storchensteg.
